Scheidt & Bachmann Fare Collection Systems has chosen Transaction Network Services (TNS) to provide payment gateway services for approximately 4,000 ticket vending machines (TVMs), which serve the UK and Ireland’s transport networks and handle over 90 million transactions per year.

The service, which went live in August, saw hundreds of TVMs migrated each day across a twelve-week period, with millions of transactions having already been successfully processed through TNS’ cloud-native payment platform utilizing the TNSPay Gateway.

The TVMs are mission-critical infrastructure for the UK and Ireland’s transport networks, providing ticketing services for most of the largest operators including, in the UK, Govia Thameslink Railway, Great Western Railway, Transport for Wales, Nexus, Transport for Greater Manchester, and Scotrail, and, in Ireland, Irish Rail and Luas.

As a cloud-native, API first solution, the TNSPay Gateway evolves with consumer expectations and demands, enabling omni-channel payment acceptance reliably and securely anywhere in the world. For Scheidt & Bachmann, the TNSPay Gateway will process Card Present (CP) transactions initiated at the TVM, and supports VISA, Mastercard and Amex card payments as well as digital wallets.

“We’re pleased to have partnered with TNS for our UK and Ireland payment processing needs,” said Ken Cameron, Managing Director Fare Collection Systems at Scheidt & Bachmann UK. “We chose TNS based on its reputation for security, its operational performance, and the visibility and insight into our transaction data enabled by their processing platform – it was a natural strategic fit for us.”

As well as the TNSPay Gateway, the solution for Scheidt & Bachmann also utilizes products from TNS’ Connect Portfolio. Transaction data is securely transported through TNS’ Level 1 PCI certified network using TNSConnect and TNSConnect Cloud from the terminal to the TNSPay Gateway, and between the TNSPay Gateway to Scheidt & Bachmann’s chosen acquirers via TNS’ direct acquirer integrations.

“TNS has been a trusted, global partner of Scheidt & Bachmann for many years, working closely with the parking division of the business,” said Matthew Thomas, Managing Director of UK and Ireland, TNS Payments Market. “Providing this vital payment’s infrastructure, which is so important to the transport network in the UK and Ireland, plays to TNS’ strengths and heritage of enabling mission-critical infrastructure. We look forward to working with the Scheidt & Bachmann Fare Collection Systems team on a long-term basis.”

TNS is a Level 1 PCI DSS certified service provider, and its secure network is supported 24x7x365 by TNS’ four global Network Operation Centers. With a strong payments heritage and more than 30 years of expertise, TNS accepts, connects, and securely processes billions of transactions every year through its secure Infrastructure-as-a-Service solutions.
