From voice and video cloning to botnets and malware, bad actors are deploying increasingly sophisticated robocall and scam attacks and creating more pressure than ever for service providers and the broader telecommunications ecosystem to effectively validate system performance.

At this year’s SIPNOC (the 14th Annual SIP Network Operators Conference), Sept 16-18, TNS will be sharing insights into the complexity that analytic systems are gaining in parallel with the growth in AI and unveiling an advanced form of testing that could soon become available to the telecoms industry.

Red Team or ‘Adversarial’ Testing

TNS will introduce Red Team Testing, also known as Adversarial Testing, as the next step in validating AI-powered call analytics engines in a fast-moving environment where conventional testing methods, such as honeypots, are becoming more vulnerable to circumvention by bad actors.

Why System Performance Testing Needs to Evolve

With the growing sophistication of threats to the security of the voice channel and some inherent validation gaps with existing testing methods, this talk will discuss why an evolved approach is needed, and how Red Team Testing is a proven approach to validating the implementation of call analytics tools.

In this session, TNS will:

  • Outline the benefits and limitations of Honeypots, and other testing methods
  • Explain the advantages of Red Team Testing
  • Discuss increased regulatory interest in testing
  • Outline why Red Team Testing may become a standard part of future testing
  • Reveal the results of Red Team Testing trials, including success rates against different scam types

TNS AI Labs

These insights into Red Team Testing are the result of continuous pioneering work by TNS’ AI Labs. This research initiative has been working on generative, predictive and discriminative AI technologies, including voice biometrics, which uses real-time AI to identify whether the voice on the other end of an incoming call is artificially generated, and AI call and text spam detection, which enlists AI models to prevent machine-generated text messages and calls from reaching the intended recipient.

These solutions can be leveraged by carriers of all sizes to help mitigate the damage done by robocall bad actors.

TNS’ session ‘Validating Spam and Scam Detection – Red Team Testing as an Alternative to Honeypots for Validating AI-Powered Call Analytics Engines’ will be at SIPNOC on Tuesday, Sept 16, from 3:15pm-3:45pm.
